They say the most beautiful thing a woman can wear is her smile, but I didn't know how prevalent such a statement would be in both my personal and professional life until this year. Two major events occurred in my life that pushed me to value and desire a whiter smile: firstly, I moved into my career as a country blogger, and secondly, I fell in love with the man of my dreams. I know, I know, sappy. Trust me, I'm smiling even now as I write this.
Whiter Teeth affected my Blogging Confidence:
This year was the first year I decided to pursue my dream of turning my own business into a reality. I have been blogging as a sporadic hobby for a couple of years now and decided to move from a marketing office job to running my own company and marketing for myself within country music. Moving from office meetings with potential clients to nights out meeting country artists was quite the transition. My "clients" were now friends. I was socially obligated to go out. I was my own company (instead of working for one) so networking was completely different. First impressions had a whole new meaning and I was unable to hide behind a conference call, an email, or anything without my face showing. Smiling became more than a beautiful thing to wear, it became my signature. Greeting someone with a smile and letting them see how approachable I am has become my key to success as I entered the blogging industry. I would be out at concerts covering shows, attending after parties, and then waking up and drinking lots of teeth-staining-coffee to have the energy to finish writing the article. While in the midst of my transition into blogging, new travel schedule, sporadic "work" hours, and the stress of creating my own products, I took a vacation that changed my life. I met my person. The one who encourages me to draw creativity from road trips, who listens to my dreams, and who challenges me to envision goals bigger than I originally set for myself. I won’t go into too much detail on who he is since I’ll save that for a whole other post, but I have NEVER smiled so much in my life. The night I met him, he opened the door, I turned around and smiled at him, and he has pursued me ever since. The first memory he has of me is that warmth and inviting nature. Since then, I’ve never laughed so hard, smiled for so many cute pictures around the world beside him, or drank more red wine on long date nights by candlelight. Smiling is not an option, but a permanent result of being my authentic self constantly. I value my brighter smile with such fervor because I know it is what he sees every day when he makes me beam while laughing. Ugh, I’m smiling even now dangit!
Choosing the Right Product and Company for Me:
There are many teeth whitening companies with strips, gels, LED lights, and many other contraptions to help you achieve your whiter smile. Having been approached by companies before, I would always research the company before replying because you all know how picky I am about everything in my life (aka why it’s a huge deal that I’m publicly dating for the first time in 5 years.) I never wanted to do strips because I had tried them long ago and felt really bad sensitivity in my teeth. I had tried a whitening kit with an LED mouthpiece and again, suffered from aching sensitive teeth when I tried to enjoy my coffee. Finally, I heard from Smile Brilliant! I’ve tried this before and your molds end up loose and don't whiten the crevices between your teeth! However, with the tray creation process from Smile Brilliant, you receive small molding clay paste that is easy to use, easy to press into your tray and easy to press your teeth into. In a matter of seconds, your molds are finished with the professionalism that you receive at your dentist for your retainers and night guards!
Using the shipping bag attached, I filled out my information card which gave me the option to purchase whitening gel or desensitizing gel refills. Dropping this off at the post office, my trays were off to be created especially for my teeth shape!
Using your trays + Whitening Gel:
I was abroad and then traveling across the U.S. when my trays arrived back at home a few days later. It sucked having to wait to use my custom fitted teeth whitening set until after months of travel, but let me tell you the excitement and anticipation could not have grown any higher! I had drank so much coffee in quaint cafes, red wine on date nights with my lover, and what felt like full pots of black coffee to push me through the rough mornings. Coming home to my trays got me so excited to pamper myself and treat myself to the whitening repair I needed!
Adding a spot of gel to each of my teeth indents, I realized quickly that a little of the product went a LONG way! I only needed a spot on each tooth before setting my timer for an hour and locking my trays onto my teeth.
Since the trays were designed so professionally, I would forget they were even on! They wouldn't slip or leak out gel or leave a nasty taste in my mouth (like the whitening strips, oh Lord did those NOT work for me). I would be free to go about the rest of my morning getting ready. I would hop in the shower, do my makeup, curl my hair, or whiten my teeth while I read the news.
Desensitizing Gel:
As a person who has struggled with teeth sensitivity while whitening, I was expecting to have issues regardless of the company. I only had sensitivity when I left the gel on for longer than an hour and the instructions advised to test how your teeth react. Once I found my personal time allotted preference, (45 minutes thank you) I was able to whiten my teeth every day for two weeks to see my results from beginning to end! I do grind my teeth in my sleep when I'm stressed and this can cause your enamel to be worn out and thin. The desensitizing gel that comes with your teeth whitening kit, helps to protect your teeth from future staining, and helps to protect the pores on your teeth!
Though I love to whiten my teeth and have a bright smile, I can NOT stop myself from a black cup of coffee or a rich full-bodied red wine! I mean, a girl has to live! How often I do it:
Once I figured out my perfect 45-minute time slot placement in the morning, I was able to whiten my teeth daily for the 14 day period to see my before and after results. Once I had that comparison for you all to see, I switched to every other day, and now whiten my teeth 3 times a week! Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
Everyone is different and there are some days I only do 30 minutes as a touch up before I go to a meeting, or if I find I have free time on a day that I have a special event! I have found that maintaining the results takes such little upkeep after the first two weeks! That is something I have NEVER had the pleasure of experiencing. I can trust that my pearly white smile will last.
