Hello my Darlings! I’m back in the States and can not begin to tell you how thankful I am for this Spring weather!! Many of you know I just spent the entire winter season in London where it was SO cold, dry, and damaging to my hair. The winter season really did a number on my poor scalp and my beautiful hair lost it’s shine and luster. I have very thick, curly, frizzy, long, and dark hair. that I’m constantly trying to tame, keep healthy, and grow out. (I’m a hairdresser’s worst nightmare haha!) I was contacted by Formulate to create my own shampoo and conditioner: Personal hair care designed by me, for me?! I had to know more!
Why I said Yes to Formulate!
Working with personalized chemists, I was going to be able to design shampoo and conditioner for my hair type, my hair goals, and all while taking into account the weather and environment surrounding my hair. I have tried every hair gel, creme, spray, and mousse you can think of to try to tame my hair over the years. The thickness of my hair creates a dry scalp, while the need for less washes adds to the lack of bounce and color, and the constant use of a flat iron adds to the breakage. I have tried every shampoo and conditioner combination as I’m also allergic to sulfates! I mean, come on! I couldn’t believe I was about to have a Sulfate and Paraben free product for my hair that was also Cruelty and Preservative free! I love to use as natural and healthy products as possible and I never thought hair care was a possibility for me. After seeing this, I think I finished my survey faster than most out of excitement! I had gone through my personal survey choosing what was important for my hair goals (more on that to come), and even what scent I wanted (Tidal! Think Coconut). All I had to do was wait for my mail!
How to create your own customized set:
Filling out my personal hair quiz, I selected my hair type, picked out my hair goals, and let them know what I was looking to see from my results! It was really easy to take the quiz and only took a few minutes!
I chose my scent, informed them on what I used to style my hair everyday (someone help me break up with my straightener), and put in the address for where I would be most so they could study the upcoming weather factors that would contribute to my hair care!! This, blew my mind!! When do we remember that the seasons affect our personal care? For me, it’s always AFTER I’m pale, my skin is cracking, and my hair is limp and colorless! No more! I got my personalized shampoo and personalized conditioner set for the right humidity and frizz prevention for London weather!
My Hair Goals:
Anti-Frizz: Have you seen my hair without being styled or without product? The number one reason I don’t wear my curls is because they frizz and puff out by the end of the day.
Healthy Moisturized Scalp: With such thick and long hair, I end up having to go longer between washes so my ends don’t dry out.
Bring Back the Shine: The winter weather strips my hair of all it’s shine, vibrance, and luster! The wind is cold and strips my hair of all it’s body.
Deep Conditioning: I have such thick hair that this is a MUST. I envy my friends who have to wash their hair everyday!
Receiving my Personalized Shampoo + Conditioner:
The washes vary by your ingredients (2 min, 5 min, 2 washes, 5 pumps, etc. ) because not every hair type is the same and your products are for you! I loved this, because I always end up wasting shampoo and over using my conditioner to try to balance my hair out. Do you know how many times I end up with uneven bottles of product? It’s small, but annoying! Formulate was here to solve my personal care struggles! I loved receiving my kit because my card was personalized! It had my name, my goals, and ALL of the ingredients listed on the back with the date my order was customized. I love the concept of kind intention. I believe it is the most important trait to carry into everything you do because it will naturally lead you to be better. When I know what I’m using and being intentional with my product choices, I am not supporting harsh testing, unknown chemicals, or supporting the horrible mass production of oversupply. I could not wait to start using my new set. I was informed it would take a few washes to strip my hair of the past products and get my head used to the new formula.

Checking in + Feedback:
Everyone’s hair is different so Formulate promises that if something is not right on the first formulation, your chemist will adjust your formula and ship you a new one! I love this because it gives your hair time to adjust and make sure you are completely happy with your results. My team contact was so supportive and my chemist made adjustments to my feedback for a lighter formula that ended up being perfect for my return from London! My hair adjusted perfectly and has been shinier, stronger, and so beautifully lush with volume! My hair is definitely getting closer to my goals because of Formulate and I feel good taking care of my locks. I have been able to wear them curly for the first time EVER in my life without putting product in my hair after I shower! WHAT?!
